TEACHING APPROACH

Fundamental skills are important for beginners. My younger students learn it step by step through fun music games. I teach my students to play their favourite tunes as well as the practical pieces in one on one and buddy lessons. Every student is different and I adjust the teaching material to help them progress.

Key learning areas include keyboard awareness, note reading, rhythmic understanding, sight reading, improvisation, general knowledge and aural awareness.

For the mid grade students, focus is to strengthen the fundamental reading skills as well as to develop piano technique required for the upcoming higher grades. I will introduce a wide variety of pieces which assist students to be proficient in a  range of musical styles.

In addition to the key learning areas (notation, rhythms, sight reading, improvisation, general knowledge, aural awareness), other learning focus include chords, melody writing, harmony, modulation, transposition and intervals.
